COVID-19 quarantine teaching as an experiment in non-coercion (VIDEO)

Dr. Ben Blum-Smith is currently a part-time faculty member of Eugene Lang College’s Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and a Visiting Academic at the New York University Center for Data Science. He has worked as a middle and high school teacher and then as a mathematics professional development specialist, before training as a research mathematician. He will discuss COVID-19 quarantine teaching as an experiment in non-coercion. How do we go about getting students to do what we want them to? Where are the opportunities to acknowledge our students’ autonomy?
