But Was It Really Math?

A decade ago, lived a small boy
Who played with his galaxy and rocket ship toy
Very ambitious before he was taught
He had dreams of becoming a famous astronaut
But now he sits in an office you see
All because he thought “math isn’t for me”
He gave up his dream with lots of dramatics
But is it fair he blamed mathematics

Along with him there was a girl named Mary
She thought mathematics was very scary
Dropping math in grad eleven
At the time she thought this was heaven
She made a mistake that would affect her later
Due to the fact she was a math hater
She closed many doors with a lot of force
She blamed mathematics, which is not true, of course.

Along with them came another two
This time they blamed their bad IQ
Stating math is only for the gifted
Their thoughts and beliefs needed to be shifted
Unable to finish their dream degree
Both dropped out early from university
Math is difficult that is true
But they definitely should have pushed through

It doesn’t end there, sadly enough
Others said the quizzes were very tough
And if it wasn’t due to the test
It definitely meant the teachers weren’t the best
“They didn’t teach me that or this”
But never asked “please help me miss”
Everything mathematics was blamed
But these students didn’t try and should be ashamed

But there was this very special child
And let me tell you he was wild
For years his life was all about the party
But soon he wanted to be a smarty
He took mathematics in his stride
Even though it was a tough ride
His love for math is forever growing
His smile from math is brightly glowing

So, yes mathematics can be very intimidating
But it stems from us all “Math-hating”

Empire of winds was inspired by the song of the same name by “Alpine Universe” and partly by the associated documentary trailer. This poem speaks of the primal forces of the Earth which shape existence unseen and how these forces possess a spirit which speaks to the soul, whom craves healing, compassion, and freedom. It may also speak of sailing, channeling the two mediums of the world through a vessel bound with the task of passage, safe guarding of souls, bringing aid and chasing freedom. It speaks of having awe for elements as old as time while being beyond ones control which invite the traveler to journey.
