Jo Swart is a pastor at Life Church in Somerset West and has been involved in a number of projects within the local community and beyond our borders. Jo serves as the Chairperson of Somerset West Night Shelter and she will be talking about the remarkable journey of how the shelter has managed the many challenges that have come with the lockdown.
Lourens van Niekerk is a Bachelor of Science Honours student in Mathematics at Stellenbosch University. He lives on a farm with his pet warthog. Lourens and his family have been creating fashionable face masks and selling them to their community. They have also created a daily tracking system during lockdown to measure everyone's health status.
Genevieve Michael is the Head Girl of Brescia House School. She has played a significant role in implementing sound interventions for students at her school. She will be sharing her personal experiences as a Matric and how she has managed the challenges of COVID-19 head on.
Mr. Charl Davids is a registered psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. He is a former Youth Programme Manager at Selfhelp Manenberg; Training Department Manager (Trauma Centre for the Survivors of Violence and Torture, CPT) and Principal Psychologist (South African Police Services, CPT). He started his private practice in 2003. He had the position of Deputy and HOD at UWC's Psychology Department. He is currently the Deputy Director at the Centre for Student Counselling and Development at Stellenbosch University. Since 2018 he also serves as the SADC regional Coordinator of the International Consortium of Universities for Drug Demand Reduction (ICUDDR). He will speak about his experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
